Liver

Liver

The liver is an organ that aids in digestion by producing a fluid called bile that helps in breaking down fat. Located in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen, it is essential in the synthesis of proteins as well in the process of detoxification. A small organ rests beneath the liver, called the gall bladder. This organ is responsible for storing the bile produced and carrying it to the small intestine during the digestion process.

The list of ailments that come under Liver are:

  • Acute liver failure
    Autoimmune hepatitis
Bile duct cancer (See: Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer))
    Enlarged liver
    Halitosis (See: Bad breath)
    Hepatitis A
    Hepatitis B
    Hepatitis C
    Hepatitis, autoimmune (See: Autoimmune hepatitis)
    Hepatitis, toxic (See: Toxic hepatitis)
    Hepatocellular carcinoma
    Hepatomegaly (See: Enlarged liver)
    Liver disease
Liver failure, acute (See: Acute liver failure)
    Liver hemangioma
Liver spots (See: Age spots (liver spots))
    Liver, enlarged (See: Enlarged liver)

Zyropathy’s Hypothesis

The liver is a large rubbery organ weighing close to 1.5 KGs. It is located on the right side of the belly and has two large sections, called the right and the left lobes. The gallbladder sits under the liver, along with parts of the pancreas and intestines. The liver and these organs work together to –

  • Break down or convert the food into energy
  • Break down fats in a person’s diet to either be stored or released as energy.
  • Break down the alcohol you consume in the blood as well as any medications you take.
  • Create an immune system that can fight against infection
  • Create proteins responsible for blood clotting
  • Break down old and damaged red blood cells
  • Store extra blood sugar as glycogen.

Apart from these functions, the liver also filters the blood received from digestive organs through the portal vein and determines which nutrients should be processed, stored & sent back to the blood and which ones should be eliminated via excretion. It breaks down proteins and produces ammonia as a by-product, which can be toxic in large amounts. The liver turns the toxic ammonia into urea which is excreted out by kidneys via urine.

The liver has the capacity to regenerate all by itself without needing a stimulant. This means that after an injury or surgery to remove tissue, the liver tissue can grow back to a certain extent. Within a week after removing two-thirds of the liver, the liver can return to the same weight it was before surgery.

The liver can be affected by more than 100 types of liver diseases. Many conditions begin as flu-like symptoms and progress to more severe signs of liver damage, such as jaundice and dark coloured urine/stool. Some other symptoms of Liver damage include –

  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Joint pain
  • Stomach discomfort leading to abdominal swelling
  • Nose bleeds
  • Abnormal blood vessels on the skin Spider Angiomas)
  • Itchy skin
  • A low sex drive
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Confusion and difficulty thinking clearly
  • Swelling of the legs (Edema)
  • Gynecomastia (when males start to develop breast tissue)
  • Dark urine
  •  Pale-coloured or dark stools

If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above, it could be a condition that affects your liver. Liver enlargement is one of the most common conditions that arise in such cases. If one or more of these symptoms persist, we advise you to contact Zyropathy immediately.
